Nearshore Waves
Blue Hill Hydraulics uses CFD to predict the combined effects of diffraction, refraction, and breaking of surface water waves.
The example to the right shows the result from a simulation where CFD was used to study the transformation of waves in shallow water through to breaking.
The example at the bottom of the page shows a result from a calculation where the propagation of surface water waves around a breakwater structure was simulated.
The results of these and other simulations have helped to establish the legitimacy of CFD used to augment coastal engineering projects.
